First look Stephanie Brown in Batman, Inc. “Leviathan Strikes”

dcwomenkickingass:

Here’s a glimpse as Stephanie Brown in the upcoming Batman, Inc. double issue Leviathan Strikes via Cameron Stewart’s Twitter feed yesterday:

That English boarding school sure looks unfriendly. Maybe that’s why Bats had to slug one on the original cover for Batman, Inc. in which this story was to appear. Stephanie is now Spoiler in the story.

Awesome! Now we just need to find out about Cass, Mia and Renee!!

Oh no, they didn’t.

dcwomenkickingass:

Amanda Waller, who represented two under represented groups of people in comics, women of color and people of size, now represents just one.

I get it it must be a return to the most “iconic ver…  wait Amanda Waller has something to say …

I hear you Amanda, I hear you.

Not everyone looks the same in this world. There are people in wheelchairs and people of size. I’d like to see some in my comics, too.

OH For Fuck’s SAKE

From the DC 52 panel:

  • I think Steph is going back to being Spoiler. From the panel: What’s going on with Stephanie Brown? DiDio: “Stephanie Brown will be part of Batman’s world in The New 52. I was a huge Spoiler fan, believe me.”
  • Still not a fan of the Babs info that’s coming out. Why such a big change to Barbara Gordon? (Eddie) Berganza said they have faith in what Gail Simone can do. “We took a lot of care. It’s not like ‘Oh, I can walk.’”
  • THERE ARE FIVE GODDAMN ROBINS. STOP. STOP DISMISSING STEPH. THE ONLY GIRL ROBIN*. Fan asked about Wally West. DiDio said they wanted to focus on Barry Allen, and then in the course of his answer joked that being Robin was more of an “internship” since there have been four in five years. (*in-continuity, let’s not start discussing CK, she’s awesome, etc., I know, but just… not the point)

Is this the full DCnU JLA line-up?

dcwomenkickingass:

From the Facebook page of Toon Tumbler, this is the SDCC 2011 exclusive. I am pretty sure it is as I had been told that both Mera and Firestorm would be joining the line-up.

I see Mera, Ray Palmer/Atom, Green Arrow, Hawkman, and Firestorm. Who is that in upper right? And who is the blonde woman? Is that Black Canary?

That looks like Deadman/Boston Brand in the upper right. It looks like there’s another woman on the right, but I’m not sure who it is. This team is still pretty white. (Ugh, Ollie, Barry, Hal, gtfo)

Again, DC’s efforts at introducing diversity — as well as its focus on “young, fresh” heroes — raises questions as to why there’s no sign of former Batgirl Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown.

Asian-American Cassandra Cain was once among DC’s most prominent minority characters. And despite DC’s reader-inciting effort to “turn” her bad a couple years ago, the character has recently shown up again as a hero in titles like Red Robin and Batman: Gates of Gotham.

Young college student Stephanie Brown was primed by DC to be a leading hero as well, having launched a new Batgirl series with her fresh, young face and attitude.

Now that Barbara Gordon is Batgirl, there’s no mention of either Cass or Steph in September’s titles. Apparently, there’s enough room for three former, and a fourth current Robin, but only room for one female Batgirl?
