Cause sometimes I’m gonna complain about seeing things like a woman running for her life and the implication that she’s going to be raped by a bunch of men and seeing it over and over in comics. That scene I just described? Happens in Green Arrow #1. There’s another potential rape reference in Return of Bruce Wayne #4.
Myself and another girl got kind of annoyed by it. We mentioned it over at CBR
Here’s a response we got:
People complaining about the rape subtext need to grow up. It’s an awful reality, yes, but it’s a reality nonetheless. Heroes save people from getting killed, mugged, assaulted, and any number of other violent crimes, so why not rape? It’s realistic. You think some bandits willing to kill a man and his son wouldn’t consider raping the wife? Really? Really?
Come on, people, please.
Rape is an awful awful thing, but as long as it’s not being glorified (hell, it’s not even SHOWN), then please… This isn’t Dr. Light all over again, so stop acting as offended as if it were.
So thanks for minimizing my offence, there, buddy. Cheers to that!
Also, my avatar over there? Is Outlaw’s rack. Because I’m a girl and apparently I can’t like these things. Or be flamboyant in my icons. But whatever cause I also got this comment.
Says the chick with titties for her avatar.
Ugh.
I miss you, Scans_Daily. <3
Also, I just noticed I have 69 followers. Heh.

Yeah, it’s a reality. And I’m sure comic books always treat that reality with the caution and respect it deserves rather than using it as a lame plot device. T__T

Ugh ugh ugh, just because rape happens doesn’t mean we need constant reminders in media and more instances of BIG STRONG MEN saving the WEAK FRAIL WOMEN from it. also there’s something potentially victim-blaming about the icon comment, fuck that guy
